Dr. Richard Isaacson was featured by CNN discussing research on a highly accurate blood test that could make Alzheimer’s disease screening more accessible. The study found that measuring the blood biomarker p-tau217 identified Alzheimer’s-related brain changes with accuracy comparable to PET scans and spinal taps, raising the possibility of detecting the disease years before symptoms appear.

Dr. Isaacson called the findings “among the best available evidence” supporting a single blood test for Alzheimer’s and emphasized its potential to transform preventive brain health. He noted that, much like cholesterol testing helps identify cardiovascular risk before a heart attack, Alzheimer’s blood biomarkers could one day help identify dementia risk early and allow physicians to monitor how lifestyle changes and therapies are working over time.
