Dr. Richard Isaacson was featured by CNN discussing new research linking reduced deep sleep and REM sleep to brain changes associated with Alzheimer’s disease. The study found that spending less time in these restorative stages of sleep was associated with shrinkage in brain regions that are particularly vulnerable to Alzheimer’s, reinforcing the growing evidence that sleep plays a critical role in long-term brain health.

Commenting on the findings, Dr. Isaacson noted that they align with what he has observed in clinical practice:

“We also found sleep metrics on deeper sleep predicted cognitive function, so between that plus brain volumes, it’s real.”
